Don't touch me, I have spikes.

So, I read this post at Shapely Prose on this advert for Wilkinson Sword. While I agree with everything Sweet Machine says about beauty culture and the standards for women being about how 'all women should be available to groping by men at all times', that's not what bothers me most about the ad.

The video shows a man touching the legs of a woman, presumably his girlfriend, not just without her consent but against her will. She moves his hand. She says 'stop it'. And it's presented as completely normal and acceptable for him to continue.

The implication is that she doesn't want him to touch her legs because she hasn't shaved them. And the solution presented to this is that she buys a shiny new razor and presumably uses it when there's any chance of the boyfriend being anywhere near her. Not for him respect her boundaries or back off when she's uncomfortable.

Yes, this is one small thing. But it's one small thing contributing to a general culture where consent is considered unimportant, and rape and sexual assault are frighteningly common. And those small things have to be tackled to change that culture.
